Drop a live bait over for a John Dory. This 6lber was caught in the harbour. They are very good eating.

There are lots of great fishing spots along the Whangarei Heads coastline with a vairity of fish.

Ocean Beach is a great place for surf casting, particular on the northern side of the beach.

Whangarei Harbour is also a great place for game fishing and for catching those bigger sized fish.

There are a number of boat ramps near Breakaway Retreat for launching small runabouts or sailing vessels. Boats can be anchored in front of Breakaway Retreat for easy access during your stay.

Shellfish. Mair Bank (just off Marsden Point) has plentiful pipis accessible by boat at low tide.
